The rating is the result of a joint project by the Financial Times and Statista consisting of months of research, public calls, intensive database research and directly contacting tens of thousands of companies.

To qualify for the list, companies must 1) have had revenue of at least $100,000 generated in 2015, 2) have had revenue of at least $1.5m generated in 2018, 3) not be a subsidiary, 4) have had primarily organic revenue growth between 2015 and 2018, and 5) be headquartered in one of 20 countries in the Americas.
